Animating spatial transformations

Urban spaces and landscape areas are subject to continuous change. They are products of evolutionary processes that run over long periods of time and set the basis for future developments. Even unobtrusive spaces of daily inhabitation hide interesting histories which are waiting to be uncovered and told.

But what methods are suitable for telling these multi-layered stories? How can their interesting and important aspects be highlighted while their complex components are presented in an understandable – and exciting – way? Through text, image, drawing, sound, ...? What techniques can be used to construct the narrative?

These questions form the core of the module series "CoFilms", as the medium of film is particularly suitable for conveying dynamic processes. Students and researchers test together via group discussions, supervisions, software trainings and workshops how complex research content can be transformed into vivid stories through the medium of video. Here, the format of video facilitates the interplay between different media (image, text, sound, etc.). Animations serve as links between these, increasing the precision and impact of the narrative. This makes it easier to convey complex information in a compact and understandable way.
