Action project "After the flood" - new playroom for the children of the Hermann School
The children of the Hermann School in Stolberg urgently need more play and exercise space on their school grounds.
The elementary school, in the Stolberg district of "Auf der Mühle," was flooded during the high water on July 14, 2021, and the building was so badly damaged that the main wing and the gym hall were largely rebuild to shell condition and can currently no longer be used entirety. Since then, the schoolyard has been full of containers and heavy construction equipment, leaving too little space for the daily break routine of the more than 200 children from 25 nations. To help to compensate for this, the city of Stolberg has made a brownfield site located above the school available.
This area was also badly damaged by the floods and the last storm. The area is in urgent need of a "clean-up" to clear it of trash, construction waste, broken wood, and brambles before new ideas and design proposals for the entire open space area of the school can be used to create an attractive outdoor play, exercise, and learning space.
Our plan, together with all the students in this impromptu, is to spend an entire day at the school on May 12, 2022, to.
1. help with a cleanup the brownfield site,
2. get to know the school and the children and their wishes and
3. to develop first ideas and models for the design of the area on site.
The school and its sponsoring association are looking forward to the cooperation and actively support the action.
